I love this wedding invitation. It reminds me that I need to start planning my big 40th birthday bash that is supposedly happening in July. I had high hopes for a desert retreat for all my best girlfriends but I’m starting to think a campfire kumbiya might be more affordable than a spa day. Anybody have any great outdoorsy retreat ideas?

Camp at Joshua Tree! It’ll be crazy hot during the day, but the night sky is amazing. There are also hot springs spa-ish vacation rental homes in the area, never been myself. Joshua Tree Inn is quirky, desert cool with a restaurant and pool, if you just want a place besides your house to gather and get away. My old favorite place to eat in JT has changed ownership since I moved (Crossroads Cafe) so Natural Sisters vegan is my next rec. Another less pricey get away option is the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. You can just get a pool pass and hang out with all the hipsters and pretend you’re cool too.
