microaggressions

I just had lunch with a cousin of mine and we got to talking about racism, sexism, power, privilege…and some issues that have come up now that I live where I live. It was a really interesting conversation. He turned me onto this site that really made me think. I tend to ask the obvious questions sometimes. Maybe it’s the journalist in me or maybe I’m just as subtle as a dump truck. But I think I’ve said some of these hurtful things to people unknowingly. My cousin said, “It’s not what you say that hurts so much. It’s that you’re the seventeenth person this week to make that comment and it adds up.” This website is a place people can vent and discuss how the little things can hurt sometimes.
