The mysterious space-saving hedgehog!
The other day we finally packed up Baby Bug’s crib, wrapped it up in plastic and shipped off to our family storage unit, aka Camp Chaos. It just took up way too much space and the only thing that ever slept in it was stuffed animals. Lots and lots and lots of stuffed animals. They were getting thick in there.
We’d been holding onto the crib year after year thinking I’d get pregnant again but that hasn’t happened so now I’m convinced that getting rid of it might work like a good luck charm. So far, no luck. But! We have tons of space now in Bug’s room! Space is so fun to play in!
The only problem was that now the veritable zoo of stuffed animals had no where to live. You can only stash so many animals on your bed before there isn’t any room to sleep. I tried to find some to take to the goodwill but every single animal had a story or was given to us by someone we really care about. What to do, what to do… I’d love to buy one of these but I’m trying to cut down on miscellaneous expensive extras.
Then I eyeballed Hedgie. I unzipped him, took out his inner balloon and voila! We have our own Hedgehog Boonie thingamagig! It’s great! The hedgehog used to be fun to fwomp on but it was a bit dangerous because the inner balloon would bounce you right off in odd directions and sometimes those odd directions would be towards sharp edges like the coffee table or a rock hard wall. So now it isn’t so bouncy. It’s squishy. Kind of comfortable really.

Brilliant idea!!! Now you can rotate the stuffies that hibernate in hedgie.

That’s excellent. I also used to have a “Pet Net” in the upper corner of my room. Not sure if they still make those, but it worked great for getting animals off the floor but still being able to see them. (Actually, you could probably make a similar thing yourself pretty cheaply…)

I second that, it’s a Brilliant idea!

You already know I think that was brilliant!

Haha, I just realized three comments in a row called you “brilliant.” Are you feeling all shiny and glowy now? ;-)

I would love to know where you got that hedgehog. It is trés cool. Even though our nursery “theme” is Finding Nemo/Sealife I would love to have a hedgehog.

I’ll chime in with brilliant. Because it’s true.

Marvelous idea!

What a great new job for the hedgehog!

What a great idea! Right now all T’s stuffed animals live in his Moses basket.
My mom totally subscribes to the superstition of if you get rid of your crib, you’ll end up pregnant. She confessed that’s why she never gave away or sold my crib, which was good, since I used it for T! But I thought it was so funny that she was so convinced about it.

genius!!

Ditto to what everyone else said. Ha ha ha
Wondering if the same thing will work with my daughter’s tried decrepit (spelling?) bean bag chair..hmmmmm

What a great idea!! (That ball thing you linked to is ALSO awesome.)
I have the same problem with stuffed animals. I just CAN’T part with them!

Wow, ingenious! Poor J not only got a ton of stuffies, but he inherited mine as well. They now take up a precious drawer under his bed, but making a pillow or two out them would be a great idea. I just love it, will have to see what fabrics I have and put one together.
And yes, putting the crib away is very hard, I cried when I put it away the first time and I am sure I will cry again. Here’s hoping it’s only away for a few months for you.

that is a very creative idea!

ingenious!
ah boon – is there anything you can’t make better? :-)

Brilliant it is!
(Have you tried charting? Perhaps your body is keeping secrets from you!)

Oh wait. I give you permission to completely ignore my unsolicited advice. I cannot stop telling people what to do! Sorry.

Such a sneaky and smart idea, hehe. Don’t tell the girls but I collect and give away their stuffed animals on a regular basis. It took me a long time to get the nerve to do it but every time I fill a bag full of those things and get rid of them it’s so liberating.
You know, that crib theory might be true. You know how broken I was in the baby making department. I had just gotten rid of a lot of Audrey’s baby stuff then found out I was pregnant with Molly.

It’s true! The minute my two friends passed on all their baby stuff to us, they got pregnant. I gave away the baby bathtub and ta-dah! (I think we lucked out since we only used the bathtub a few times.)
Your hedgehog is MUCH cuter than the Boonie one. In the Boonie one, the stuffed animals look like they’re trying to get out!

Hope your good luck charm works very soon. I really admire your positive attitude.
