vanity, all is vanity
I was going to write a post about how great it is to have a girl. How I love having tea parties and playing fairy princess with her in the park. Something light and fluffy about how we made flower-chain crowns that sent me down memory lane but then I started looking at my photos.
I realized that while I was vainly ogling myself for the perfect self portrait, Baby Bug is wandering off to Starbucks or something. Um, Brenda? That’s a great shot of you hiding your double chin but there could be a bloodthirsty mountain lion hiding over there behind a tree or a kidnapper just waiting to swoop her up. Wake up, Princess Gray Hair, and rescue your child!
You’ll be relieved to know that Baby Bug is safely tucked in bed as I write this. OF COURSE! Or else I wouldn’t be writing it. But still. Maybe I need to work on my vanity a little. My many aunts (who, by the way, are totally the ones who taught me how to make daisy chains!!!!) are shaking their heads right now. I did listen to their many lectures on the subject of vanity, I just didn’t learn much.

Heh. Nice post title.

Oh it’s so hard isn’t it. It’s a fine line between wanting to look nice and not slobby and being vain. A little bit of vanity/self pride is good I think as if you have no pride in yourself I find some people might stomp on you, but I abhor out and out vanity when people put apperances before being kind, or judge you on how you look. I always think of what Ma Ingalls said in the Little House Books ” that Vanity was like all puffed up like a meringue and when you prick it there’s nothing inside”. Well she said something like that.
May I say you both look beautiful in your daisy chain crowns.

That fairy princess should have her own movie. She puts the rest of them to shame.

heehee, I was thinking what Bethany wrote!
You both look adorable though!

You crack me up. Thanks for the morning smile :)

Girls are the most fun, aren’t they? What’s keeping me from having a kid of my own is that 50/50 possibility that instead of a girl, a boy will pop out. I just wouldn’t know what to do with one in that case (grew up in a family of girls, obviously).

You are sooo funny, Princess Gray Hair!! I love being able to “Spy” into your life!

Ha! You’ve finally reminded me to google how to actually make a daisy chain. It’s now on our agenda for the day. A new blog challenge–post a photo of child and mom with daisy chains–running away not required :)
FUNKY MONKEY PHOTO
Too funny!

Ahh…she was within running distance and definitely within shouting distance…so you were well within your mommy rights to take a flattering picture of yourself. How often do stay-at-home moms have a chance to pose with a fairy crown of daisies?
Danielle
Ha! This is funny-
I haven’t made daisy chains in years!!! So nostaglic! I wonder if my boys will appreciate them…..hmmm
The Chatty Housewife
That’s hilarious. Cute photos.

Even Baby Bugs need their morning coffee run? Actually, what I noticed first is that your daughter was not even looking back while she was off wandering. That just speaks to how self-confident she is which is a wonderful thing…and to the fact that she wasn’t trying to get away but just wandering and day dreaming. My son could always be found glancing back every second or so to see if I was coming to get him…or to see if he had gone too far.
And, boys like daisy chains if they are made of dandelions…at least mine did!

I love reading your posts and appreciate your sincerety. Not all of us would admit to trying to hide our double chins. Wherever you are looks like a lot of wide open fun! Love the daisy chains! While I have Two boys, I miss out on all those fun little girl things to do. I’m expecting my first girl the end of summer, and challenges to intertwine the two worlds.

Oooh, I can’t wait for tea parties and daisy chains :). And honestly, I was only looking at you in the photo and how great you look, I wouldn’t have noticed the toddler heading up the hill. And because she is safely tucked in bed we can all have a good laugh.
Mela
Vanity or not, it is a pretty picture of you…even with those few grey hairs you have earned!
Joy
I’m glad to know there are others who examine photos for their ability to hide double chins and grey hairs!

No. Didn’t shake my head, but I did laugh out loud.

Time to hand the camera to her!!!
I can’t even fathom the photos she will take.
Did she come right to you when you called? If so, all is well.
Independence is the best gift we can give our kids.

I WISH I could come up with such a pretty vanity photo :) Worth your time for sure. And you found the Baby Bug right? ;) Heh, spoken like a mom of 3 that I am :)

That is a great picture. It could hardly have been composed better if you’d tried. It’s hilarious. I’d guess BB isn’t really as far away as she looks in the pic?
Sarah
Maybe she was heading off to round up a larger audience for her mother’s beauty?
