One Nice Green Leaf
The other day Baby Bug says to me, “I have a stomachache.”
Immediately I thought, oh no! How could she have a stomachache? Does she even know what a stomachache is? I asked her if her tummy hurt while my mind raced over what she had eaten in the last 24 hours.
Then she said, “I need one nice green leaf” and walked over to the sliding glass door to stare at the plants outside.
If you are familiar with “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” then you know what Baby Bug is up to. That silly girl. She thinks she is a caterpillar. And maybe she is since she’s been eating a string of things like birthday cake and ice cream and pizza just like the very hungry caterpillar these last few days. Maybe she does need one nice green leaf to make her feel better.
When she said it again at dinner time, I chopped her up some lettuce and gave her a “nice green leaf” salad. She seemed to like it. Or at least the salad dressing anyway.

Good morning! I remember that book so well. BB is a very, clever, funny little girl.

That is too cute. We read that book with our daughter almost daily, that post put the biggest smile on my face. :)

One of our many very favorite-est books. We really like Eric Carle. If you do not have the Very Lonely Firefly you need it right now. The flirelies light up in the back of the book.
SAJ says: We do have it and love it!

LOL – Too cute! I read that book to my son every day when he was born 4 years ago. It is still one of his favorites. We have lots of Eric Carle books in the house since I loved using them in the classroom.
Be sure to keep all nice green leaves away from BB. . . or else plants may be missing some in the future.

Love the Eric Carle books – they’re the perfect shower present! And especially fun to look at if you like go-reeen!

Funny girl. I think I’ve read that book over a million times in the last eighteen months–and we both still love it.

We want Baby Bug’s 1 year movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of this reading about her talking makes me want to hear her talk! She must be great at talking because my 23 month old does not say things like that yet. Not full sentences for sure.
Did I mention I’d love to see a movie of BB?

That is one of J’s faves. As are most of Eric Carle’s books. So cute that she wanted a nice green leaf :)

We read that book almost every night! Little ‘Ny loves to stick her fingers in the holes pretending to be the caterpillar eating. It is a great book … hey, whatever gets her to eat her veggies!

This is why we read books together, so we have a common language/reference point.
Did you let her tear the lettuce to make the salad. She would be such a great helper.
The Chatty Housewife
How cute! As long as she doesn’t eat something poisonous. I know some house plants are pretty dangerous for little kids.
Mrs. Wilson
It’s great the things that kids get from books! I love it!!

Well, leaves ARE green.

So cute! I love it when Hunter quotes things from books… movies, too. Although the movie quoting is getting to be ridiculous. The other day he said to me “Mommy, This is NOT ABOUT YOU” while I was trying to get him to go potty. Good times. Do you know what movie that’s from? Check out my blog for a little contest!
