Move Over Gumball
January 15th, 2009I woke up this morning and decided I needed to make a green cousin for Gumball for this Great Big Puppet Show Birthday Party. The thing is he needs a name. Can you help me? Should it be Froggle? Nope that’s taken. Frumball? Croakers? What do you think?

Greengo? hahaha
Jeremy says Gilbert is a good frog name.
January 15th, 2009 at 7:58 am
How about Gribbet?
January 15th, 2009 at 7:59 am
I like Croakers. I love Gilbert. so let’s play the game…Greenbit, Pea Soup, Green Bean, Beaner. I’m out.
My son likes to name his animals after food…we already have Peanut Budder and Cracker Jack (just so you know, Webkinz wouldn’t let him name it Peanut Butter…apparently it’s not allowed since it contains the word Butt.)

I like Croakers for a name and think he’s seriously cute!
January 15th, 2009 at 8:10 am
I think that froggie looks more like a girl to me. I’d call her Lily.
January 15th, 2009 at 8:41 am
I second Gribbet!
January 15th, 2009 at 8:45 am
I like Gribbet too. Gribbet & Gumball — It works.
January 15th, 2009 at 8:52 am
I third…or fourth? Gribbet!
January 15th, 2009 at 8:56 am
Seventy years ago I had a pet who lived in the cellar. I told him all my troubles and disappointments. He liked to eat tomatoes and lettuce. His name was Toby Turtle. How about Frankie Frog, or Freddie Frog or even Frenchie Frog?

Gribbet is awfully cute and it does go with Gumball.
Hopper?

I wish I had open the computer before the kids went to school. My 13 year old daughter is seriously into frogs. This guy is ver cute. I like Gribbet to go with your Gumball.
January 15th, 2009 at 9:31 am
I 2nd the name Lilly :)
January 15th, 2009 at 9:37 am
I think Croakers is a great name for the little guy/gal. Too cute!
January 15th, 2009 at 9:38 am
I think Lilly as in lilly pad is clever. Gribbet is cute too. Fribbles, Philbert, Pheobe. In French frog is Grenouille. By the way your design is beautiful.
January 15th, 2009 at 9:44 am
Lilly is cute. I like that one. But I think he’s a boy frog. He looks like a little Sprout to me.
Gumball & Sprout! (I can totally visualize it on Nick Jr.!)
January 15th, 2009 at 10:07 am
i think bug should name the green frog, ask her.
I do like Gribbet though!
January 15th, 2009 at 10:13 am
Hopalong
January 15th, 2009 at 10:22 am
How about Shamrock?
January 15th, 2009 at 10:23 am
Hoppers
January 15th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I like Froggles or Gribbet.
January 15th, 2009 at 10:45 am
I used to draw frogs in Elementary and make up stories. The boy was Frigbit and the girl was Freida. Thanks for the memories and I LOVE the frog.
January 15th, 2009 at 10:58 am
Gribbet is too cute – both the name and the frog! I can’t resist him!
January 15th, 2009 at 11:19 am
I voted “Pickle” on your flickr. And now I know why. Gumball is food related & matches the color. So is Pickle. Just think of all the relative possibilities. You could create a SAJ “Sanrio-esque” empire!
January 15th, 2009 at 11:26 am
My first thought was Jacob.
I also do like Gilbert very much, but that has to do with my undying love for Anne of Green Gables. Hey, if the frog does turn out to be a girl, you could name her Cordelia! :)
January 15th, 2009 at 11:50 am
What about Groggie? (Green + Froggie). or Polly (short for polliwog).
January 15th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
Hmm, Lily is already taken. How about…Bubbles? That’s sort of keeping with the Gumball theme, and it’s appropriate for what I think this frog will be used for.
January 15th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
My daughter says “Bibbit” when she sees it …. so I’m going to suggest that.
Er, that’s 19-month old talk for “ribbit” — she’s not really super creative or anything.
January 15th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Since gumball is well… a cat named after a candy, what about Licorice?
January 15th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
My nephew’s frog is called Fribbet it always seemed like an excellent name for a frog to me!!
January 15th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Lollihops.
January 15th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
Well, you definitely need a “G” name to pair with “Gumball,” and also he’s green, so…
Of all the reader rec’s I think Gribbit is the best, although I like adding an apostrophe:
Green+ribbit= G’ribbit!
January 15th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
How about Lamont? That’s what my daughter named her frog!
January 15th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
I asked my daughter to think of a name and she very excitedly came up with ‘Skipper’.
January 15th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
I’d edit Gribbet, to Gribblet because it’s like a little nibblet.
But, seriously when I first looked at him/her, i thought Avocado.
January 15th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
I like Gilbert.
January 15th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
Oh my goodness, your frog is awesome. I love all the suggestions so far and can’t wait to hear which one you picked.
‘Grobble’ is a favorite nickname around here.
January 15th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
Pollywog!
January 15th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
My first thought was Festus.
I have no idea why.
January 15th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
My first thought was that he looks like a Lollipop … although Katie’s Lollihops is pretty adorable, too :)
January 15th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Mr. Gribbet
January 15th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
I don’t care what the name is…I just love it!
January 16th, 2009 at 6:26 am
What a cutie!
So many good names! Gribbit is totally cute, but I also LOVE Lily. Gumball looks like a, well, gumball, and the froggie looks like a lily pad :) Perfect.
Good luck picking out a name!
January 16th, 2009 at 7:29 am
How about Leaps?
January 16th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
gilbert?
(variation on gribbet)
January 16th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
Toadle-do? I know, I know, it’s a frog. But, you know, like saying “Toot-le-do!” — or however one would spell it — when you say good-bye. Okay, I’m saying ta-ta, luv. I clearly need sleep.
January 16th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Smirky – for obvious reasons.
