Painting with Coffee! Wheeeee!
September 21st, 2008Look what I’ve been up to! Coffee painting! Woooohooo! Combining two of my favorite things! It’s like working in a bar if you are an alcoholic! Not really but it is fun for people like me who loooooooove their coffee.
I’ve seen coffee painting before around lots of places. (Maybe even in that Mr. Clean ad over there on the right?) It’s a fun medium to play with. It’s great for aging effects and washes. Just like tea and onion skins. I haven’t experimented that much yet. I’m sure there are ways to get deeper, richer, long-lasting color. (Wow. That sounds like a make-up advertisement.) But for now I just did some funny little water color line drawings.
Baby Bug thought it was fun too. But then what part of “mess” does she not think is fun? We splattered and splotched. We tried shaking salt on the coffee-paint and that worked great. Same effect you get with water-color. Then she dumped my coffee and it was no big thing because I dump my coffee all the time! This time I didn’t have to scramble to save my artwork because drips and drops only made it better.
Writing captions was pretty fun too. Maybe this is the perfect art for me. Coffee, drawing, writing and selling…all the things I love to do best!
…in moderation, of course.

I love this coffee art! I would have never thought of painting with coffee. Your talents run deep. And your love of coffee is quite similar to mine. I could use more right now and it is only noon.

Love them – now you have me craving a cup myself! Have a super day!

Shall I note publicly that the ONLY editing I did to this post was to change one long sentence into two shorter sentences? And the necessity of that was probably even subjective. See, you don’t really need an editor, you’re just humoring me. ;-)

So much fun – and I can just imagine how good this art smells!

HOLY COW – it’s so good to have you back! I’m just procrastinating a filing project I need to complete and I thought, “there’s no way SAJ has posted anything since I read her last. I just read her the other day….” And what to my wondering eyes should appear, but THREE NEW POSTS! Your creativity is so inspiring – you’ve definitely got a children’s crafts book in you just from your blogs alone! DO IT – I’d buy it!!

These are great. If you could suck on the cards to get a little caffeine hit–even better. Just throwin’ out ideas, here.

SAJ, you are very talented. I could definitely see these being sold in a Hallmark store!

If you put that collection of cards in your Etsy store, I’m ordering them! Love them! Please sell them…

Man, those are seriously cool. I love your illustrations. You’re just too dang talented!

I love, love, love your illustrations! Are you using real coffee or instant? When I worked in the theatre and we had to age stuff we used instant as you can add a tonne of granulas to the mix and get it darker and thicker. Smells good too.

I love this idea! So cute!
I also love the recycled art in the last post. (I tried to comment but I was having troubles with your pages loading)
I am dying to try this new medium!
I can just smell the good times. Mouth watering now too…….off to brew.
Mmm.

Is there a hint of coffee aroma?
I have dyed yarn with coffee. Very organic.

I LOVE THIS IDEA.
I have considered stealing it for myself personally because I NEED these cards.
But I can’t draw; slightly problematic.

Oooh – you just gave me a great idea. Thanks. Will try this with my son tomorrow. And will go to Ikea for that huge roll of paper.
Like your blog.

I was trying to research if using cofee to paint the walls in my apartment would be ok, they are drywall with a flat white paint. What do you think or do you know where I could look?
