Thanks, all, for your lovely comments and to Brenda for the opportunity to contribute a guest post at SAJ. It was good to hear how much people love to travel and a great reminder of just how fortunate I am to be in Barcelona and to travel in Europe as much as I do.

My friends are so fun! One of the downsides of international teaching is that we are now scattered all over the world. The good news… the couple who held the vacation photo party now live in Bangkok and they have invited us to visit!

I bet that time will pass faster than you can imagine. I love to see parents travelling with their kids. I know it’s a lot of work but it’s also filled with such joy – seeing everything through the eyes of your kids.

I loved what you wrote about “utterly delicious moments when forced out of my comfort zone by a new culture”. It is an addiction, isn’t it? My first BIG travel experience was also to South America and it changed my perspective on a lot of things.

made me want to cry i miss travel so much! we still do the short stuff, international is out of the question at the moment but i’ve had so many utterly delicious moments when forced out of my comfort zone by a new culture that it’s an addiction. one that i’m in withdrawal from :| and for kids? it’s the BEST THING EVER. i was dragged to south/central america several times as a young’un and it’s changed my perspective of people and the world in so many ways. can’t wait to be able to take my kids someplace :).

You’re preachin to the choir! Before I had kids, I swore up and down that I wouldn’t bring them on long flights–now we’re desperately trying to figure out how to scrape together enough miles to get to Cyprus next spring!

I love this post! It’s so true, and especially timely since the anniversary of 9/11 was just a couple of days ago.

Also, Monna, I want to come to a party with your circle of friends! They sound like fun. :-)
