Pumpkin Time Already!
September 16th, 2007I don’t mean to be one of those people who pushes a seasonal holiday on you months before you are ready BUT the pumpkins that my Dad planted last May ripened a little early and needed to be picked. They are very special pumpkins.
Way back when the pumpkins were little green balls, my Dad snuck out one morning (when nobody was around) and carved his granddaughter’s initials into them as a surprise. The pumpkins have been plumping up over the months but hiding under leaves and grass. The grown-ups knew about them but none of the little girls really noticed their names stretching and stretching across their funny pumpkins.
So yesterday we had a fun picking-of-the-pumpkins event and of course a mandatory photoshoot.

Next year I’m planting more seeds, because 9 pumpkins aren’t enough. And I’m planting them at the end of May. It’s too bad none of the ghost plants produced.

That is so freakin’ fantastic. I’m going to keep that idea for down the road ;)

What a great grandpa! We actually did a pumpkin photo shoot yesterday too! Months ago I bought some starter pumpkin plants and had my parents plant them in their garden. Well five months later, they took over the entire garden and are beautiful. I am so excited for fall and all the holidays!

It’s great to have your dad around. He can check this one off the list he made when he was always traveling.

We used to carve faces in ours–pre drawn jack-o-lanterns! It was soo fun to see those tiny marks become giant. It’s like when you draw on a balloon when it’s blown up, and then deflate it-fascinating!

I’m loving the photo of the pumpkins. Not only because they are lovely pumpkins, but they are also orange, my favourite colour. However, the names especially tickle me because my name is Helena and my nickname since childhood is Suki. Thank you for giving me such a lovely photo surprise.
